This week, we take a look at some software tools that perform the task of permanently deleting sensitive and private files from your system. All the files are freeware. East-Tec File Shredder Deleting a file with Windows or with other programs will leave the file contents on your hard disk which can be easily recovered. East-Tec File Shredder destroys sensitive and private files beyond easy recovery. Simply drag and drop files to the shredder icon on your desktop or select the files you want to destroy directly from the Windows Explorer right-click menu. The program overwrites the files either with zeroes or random data that is sufficient for private use. A professional version is available for a charge; it uses US Government-approved destruction methods.

Sure Delete is a security file shredder. Its purpose is to prevent others from breaching your privacy or stealing your secrets, which it does by securely removing all traces of any sensitive files from your hard disk beyond all hope of recovery. The program can obliterate all aspects of an individual file and wipe out entire selected directory trees in one operation. It supports drag-and-drop from Windows Explorer and allows you to select the security level, which will also affect the speed of the operation. Sure Delete includes a file cleaner and a disk cleaner, the disk cleaner will wipe the free space on a disk without deleting any files while the file cleaner permanently erases the selected files. CuteShield File Shredder lets you permanently remove files and folders from your system easily without the possibility of data recovery.
