Computer Usage Columns - Tip Off Sending attachments
Microsoft Outlook Express 6 is my default mail handler. Of late, I'm not able to send or receive any attachments. When I try opening the attachment, a message is displayed that `OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail.' However I am able to download the same attachment through Hotmail/Rediffmail. Anupama In Outlook Express 6, the option `Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus' is switched on by default. This will prevent you from opening attachments that have been detected to be `Unsafe'. OE determines this by using the Internet Explorer unsafe file list and the `confirm open after download' setting in the Folder Options. If you think the attachment to be safe and insist on opening it, then there is a way around. You can disable this option by going to the tools -{gt} options -{gt} security tab of Outlook Express and unchecking the `Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus' option. Or you can modify the unsafe file list by double clicking on the `Folder Options' icon in the control panel. Then select the File Types tab and click on the file type you want to exclude from the Unsafe list. Clear the `Confirm open after download' check box. You will not be able to clear this check box for certain file types like .exe, in which case you will have to choose to disable the `Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus' option.
