Corporate BILT to set up aids treatment centre in Orissa BERHAMPUR (ORISSA): Leading paper manufacturing company Balarpur Industries Limited will set up an anti-retroviral therapy (ART) centre in Orissa's Koraput to treat AIDS patients. The ART centre would be set up under private-public partnership mode, Par ameswar Swain, project director of Orissa Control Society (OSACS) said here. “BILT has agreed to establish ART centre at Koraput. They have already set up the cd-4 machine, the most essential device to count the cd-4 level of the patients,'' Swain said. BILT, which has its paper manufacturing unit near Jeypore in Orissa, had already set up such a centre in its unit at Ballarpur in Maharashtra. At present there are three ART centres in Orissa in three medical college hospital at Berhampur, Cuttack and B urla. The Koraput centre will help patients from far-flung districts to get the treatment, he said. In view of the number of aids patients rising, more ART centres should be opened, official sources said adding there were 11,156 hiv positive persons in the st ate by the end of october last of which 1032 were found to be aids patients. Ganjam district had the higest number of 4,412 persons infected with hiv, 1636 of them being aids patients. Of the 815 persons died of AIDS in Orissa so far, Ganjam district accounted for 370 victims, they said. – PTI
