Ranbaxy launches bio-generic injectable for osteoporosis

MUMBAI: Country's largest drug maker Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd on Thursday announced the launch of 'Bonisa - teriparatide' injection used in the treatment of osteoporosis disease in collaboration with Hyderabad-based Virchow Biotech Pvt Ltd.

Bonista-teriparatide injection is manufactured by recombinant human parathyroid hormone and Ranbaxy has become first company in the world to launch this bio generic product, the company said in a filing to the Bombay Stock Exchange.

The product has been indigenously researched at 'Virchow Biotech and developed with aid from the Department of Science and Technology under the Indian Government.

"Bonista is also a classic example of our endeavours to offer quality bio-generic therapeutic options to doctors and an affordable and efficacious product to patients,'' Ranbaxy Senior Vice President & Regional Director (Asia & CIS) Sanjeev I Dani said. - PTI
