Normal operations resumed at Dharuhera plant, says Hero Honda

NEW DELHI: Country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero Honda on Tuesday said production at its Dharuhera plant, which was stopped on Monday due to workers' strike, resumed this morning.

“Our plant at Dharuhera has resumed normal operations on Tuesday,'' the company said in a statement.

“As a precautionary measure, we had kept the plant closed for a day on Monday, after a few casual workers, with instigation from external unsocial elements, had staged a sit-in, with the objective to disrupt operations,'' it added.

Worker sources, however, said only the permanent employees have reported for work from this morning.

“Out of a total of about 4,500 workers, about 3,000 casual and contractual workers are still on strike since Sunday and we will not withdraw till our demands are met,'' they added.

They are demanding regularisation of casual and contractual employees and wages to be paid under Haryana government norms and reinstatement of suspended workers.

The workers claimed casual employees were given a basic salary of Rs 3,500 against the Haryana government norm of Rs 4,200 per month.

The Dharuhera plant produces Hero Honda's models such as 'Splendor Plus' and 'CD Deluxe' and has a production capacity of about 5,000 units per day.

The strike has come at a time when the company needs to go on full steam production to meet the festive season demands. - PTI
