Satluj Jal gets 'Mini Ratna' status

NEW DELHI: Public sector Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVN) on Tuesday has been conferred with the prestigious 'Mini Ratna' status.

"The Corporation has been conferred with the much-coveted status within only four years of coming into commercial operations," an official release said.

The Mini Ratna status grants financial autonomy to the Corporation under certain laid down guidelines and eligibility conditions to make it efficient and competitive. SJVN has been conferred with this status as a result of its commendable performance.

The company's 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station generated 6,432 million units of energy in 2007-08 as compared to 6,014 million units in 2006-07.

The company posted a net profit of Rs 732 crore in the 2006-07 and this fiscal the expected net profit of the company is Rs 715.75 crore.

The Corporation has already paid an interim dividend of Rs 136 crore to the equity partners - Government of India (Rs 102 crore) and Government of Himachal Pradesh (Rs 34 crore), against its performance for the year 2007-08.

SJVN plans to add 3,000 MW of power generation during the 11th and 12th Five Year Plans. - PTI
