Industry BoA on Special Economic Zone likely to meet tomorrow NEW DELHI: The Board of Approvals (BoA) for Special Economic Zones (SEZ) is likely to meet tomorrow to consider 35 proposals, including two from Ansal Properties, one each from JSW Bengal Steel, Bharat Forge and Larsen and Tuobro. The 19-member inter-ministerial BoA on SEZ, headed by the Commerce Secretary Mr G K Pillai, would take up the proposal of L&T Shipbuilding to set up a 467.5 hectare heavy engineering tax free zone in Tamil Nadu. It would also look into Ansal's proposals for developing a biotech and an IT zone in Uttar Pradesh totalling over 21.1 hectares and JSW Bengal Steel's plan to build a 1,804 hectare multi-product SEZ in West Bengal. The board would also consider Bharat Forge's proposal, which is awaiting an in-principal nod for its 1,271 hectare multi-product zone in Maharashtra. Other proposals that may come at the meeting include Essel Infraprojects' 110 hectare multi-services in Mumbai and Orient Craft Infrastructure and Sky Zone Infrastructure's IT and ITeS zone in Haryana and Maharashtra respectively. The government has so far has given formal approval to 513 SEZs, out of which 250 have been notified and 87 zones have become operational. - PTI
