RIL falls, Bharti gains

MUMBAI; Shares of Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries (RIL) plunged over five per cent, while the scrip of telecom major Bharti Airtel rose nearly two per cent on the Bombay Stock Exchange.

Reliance Industries fell 5.19 per cent to close at Rs 2,527.65. It had touched an intra-day high of Rs 2,510 and over 10 lakh shares changed hands. Jaiprakash Associates declined 6.60 per cent to end at Rs 251.30. The scrip had reached an intra-day low o f Rs 247.85 and over 20 lakh shares of the company got traded.

Further, shares of leading cement maker ACC Ltd dipped 4.20 per cent to Rs 712. The firm had said yesterday it is freezing the rates for next two to three months, which would complement government's efforts to fight inflation.

It had touched an intra-day low of Rs 709.10. Meanwhile, Bharti Airtel jumped 1.76 per cent to end the day at Rs 842.20. The scrip had reached an intra-day high of Rs 860 and more than 15 lakh shares changed hands. Diversified conglomerate ITC rose 1.51 per cent to close at Rs 218.30 after touching an intra-day high of Rs 220. Over seven lakh shares changed hands during the day's trade. Further, IT majors Wipro and Satyam gained on the bourse. Wipro increased 0.81 per cent to Rs 501.20 while Satyam clos ed at Rs 473.40, up 0.49 per cent from the previous day's close. - PTI
