Sensex ends down as metal stocks plunge

MUMBAI: In a lacklustre trading, the Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex on Friday fell by over 60 points with metal and realty stocks coming under some selling pressure.

The 30-share Sensex, which had gained nearly 65 points in the previous session, fell by 60.58 to close at 15,189.62. The index touched the day's high of 15,337.10 and a low of 15,135.81 points.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty fell by 22.25 points at 4,517.10, after dipping to 4,491.35 and touching a high of 4,563.35 points

Metal stocks came under pressure and the sector index lost 322.72 points at 15,185.92, followed by realty index by 150.67 points at 5,670.23. Oil and Gas index also fell by 57.93 points at 9,917.01.

Power index lost 28.73 points at 2,627.73, FMCG index by 27.33 points at 2,241.53 and auto index by 18.76 points at 4,129.79.

However, a rise in consumer durable index by 68.15 points at 3,981.55, healthcare by 52.87 points at 4,494.02, capital goods index by 29.45 points at 1,2019.16 and small-cap index by 55.82 points at 7,581.72, mainly saved the market from any further fall . - PTI
