Markets Hindalco up 3 per cent on BSE MUMBAI: Shares of Hindalco shot up nearly three per cent on Tuesday, while ONGC plunged 3.08 per cent to end the day at Rs 997.10. Hindalco gained 2.83 per cent to end the day at Rs 179.95 and more than eight lakh shares changed hands. Another major gainer was Jaiprakash Associates, which rose 2.78 per cent to close at Rs 253.25 and over 25 lakh shares changed hands during the day's trade. Further, Hyderabad-based Satyam Computer Services rose 1.31 per cent to Rs 495.95 after reaching an intra-day high of Rs 505.70. On the other hand, shares of GAIL closed at Rs 408.10, down 1.70 per cent even after the firm posted a net profit before tax at Rs 1,098 crore for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2007-08, as compared with Rs 546 crore in the corresponding period a year ago. The scrip had touched an intra-day low of Rs 989. Cement major ACC and IT bellwether Wipro declined 2.66 per cent on the bourse. While shares of ACC closed at Rs 683, the scrip of Wipro ended the day at Rs 494.20. - PTI
