Pepper falls on reduced offtake

NEW DELHI: Black pepper and jeera prices on Saturday fell by Rs 100-200 per quintal in the national capital due to reduced offtake by local traders and retailers.

Large arrivals from producing regions put pressure on the prices. Black pepper prices fell by Rs 200 to Rs 13,100-13,200 per quintal on poor export as well as domestic demand.

Jeera common and jeera best quality also drifted by Rs 100 each to close at Rs 10,400-10,800 and Rs 13,400-13,900 per quintal on discouraging advices from Unjha in Gujarat.

Poppy seed (Turkey, MP-RAJ and UP) prices dropped by Rs 10 each to conclude at Rs 360, Rs 360-410 and Rs 310-320 per kg on increased selling by stockists.

Traders said large arrivals from producing regions against reduced offtake by retailers and stockists mainly pulled down select spice prices.
