Gold moves up

MUMBAI: Silver prices cut short overnight losses and rallied by Rs 115 on firm New York advices, while gold ended flat due to lack of buying at higher levels. Good industrial demand helped silver rise.

In New York, gold and silver futures finished slightly mixed on alternate bouts of buying and selling. April gold fell to $947.80 an ounce from $949.20 previously on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange, while March silver rose to $18.0 35 from $17.959.

In domestic market, silver ready (.999 fineness) rose by Rs 115 per kilo to Rs 22,655 from yesterday's close of Rs 22,540. Standard gold (99.5 purity) ended stable at overnight historic level of Rs 12,230 per ten grams. Pure gold (99.9 purity), however , edged up by Rs 5 per 10 grams to Rs 12,290 from Rs 12,285. - PTI
