Turmeric price shoots up

ERODE: With the turmeric price shooting up to over Rs 5,000 per quintal, the current season helps turmeric farmers in Erode district to bag high profit, trade sources said. A leading turmeric trader here said that turmeric had set a record high of Rs 5 ,019 per quintal this week, while the crop was sold at Rs 4,300 per quintal last week.

Erode market was expecting arrival of 18 lakh bags of turmeric this year, against the 14 lakh bags in last year. The price hike was due to the 'commodity speculation', he said, adding the high price was expected to continue till mid April. - PTI
