Gold marginally up on scattered deals

NEW DELHI: Gold prices rose by Rs 10 to Rs 12,990 per 10 grams on the bullion market here on Monday on scattered deals influenced by a better trend in the Asian market where crude oil ruled at $132 a barrel.

Marketmen said gold rose as oil prices remained at $132 a barrel and dollar weakened against euro enhancing the precious metal's lure as a hedge against inflation. They added that scattered retailers' demand in the wake of better advices from Asian marke t also helped gold prices to improve.

Standard gold and ornaments gained Rs 10 each at Rs 12,990 and Rs 12,840 per 10 grams respectively, while sovereign remained flat at Rs 10,050 per piece of eight gram. On the other hand, silver lost Rs 50 at Rs 25,100 and weekly-based delivery by Rs 20 at Rs 25,250 per kg respectively.
