Commodities Sugar surges on brisk buying NEW DELHI: Prices of sweetener went up by a whopping Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital on Thursday following continued buying by bulk consumers as well as retailers amid restricted supplies. Sugar Asmoli and Dorala, in the millgate section (exc lude duty) climbed up by Rs.100 each at Rs.2,350 and Rs.2,360 per quintal respectively. Bundki, Kashipur, Dhanora and Ramala also showed strength and gained up to Rs.70 per quintal at Rs.2,350, Rs.2300, Rs 2,350 and Rs.2,300 per quintal respectively. Marketmen said heavy buying by bulk consumers such as soft-drink and ice-cream makers alongwith retailers ahead of new month, lifted sugar prices sharply higher. As most of the mills have cleared their allotted old stocks, and releasing of new stocks, a lso influenced the prices, they added. Sugar ready medium and second grade prices moved up from Rs.2,400-2,500 and Rs.2,390-2,490 to Rs.2,425-2,550 and Rs.2,415-2,525 per quitnal respectively. Mill delivery medium and second grade price also gained from Rs.2,240-2,350 and Rs.2,230-2,340 to R s.2,270-2,350 and Rs.2,250-2,340 per quintal respectively. Following were today's rates in Rs. per quintal: Sugar ready M-30 2,425-2,540 and S-30 2,415-2,525. Mill delivery M-30 2,270-2,350 and S-30 2,250-2,340. Sugar mill gate prices (excluding duty): Asmoli 2,450,bundki 2,350, Dhanora 2,350, Kashipur 2,300, chandanpur 2350, mawana 2370, titabi 2370, rani nangal 2,325, ramala 2,300, Samali 2,325, malak narain 2,325, malakpur 2350, Thanabhavan 2,360, Budhana 2,360, Dorala 2360, Khatauli 2,350 and Chuwara 2330. - PTI
