Logistics SITA working with AAI to upgrade IT systems in major airports NEW DELHI: Leading air transport communication specialist SITA is working with Airports Authority of India to upgrade IT systems in major Indian airports to enable them handle next generation aircraft like the superjumbo Airbus A-380 and Boeing's 787 Dre amliners. These two aircraft, which operate on very high-tech equipment, are on order from Indian carriers, with the B-787s expected to be inducted next year. “We are working with the AAI, not only to upgrade the existing technology, but also to make the existing major (metro) airports prepare to receive the next generation aircraft like A-380s and B-787s,” SITA Regional Vice President (South Asia & India) Mr Damian Hickey said. The Geneva-based SITA or Societe Internationale de Telecommunications Aeronautiques, set up in 1949, has provided a variety of aviation technologies to Indian airports and airlines over the last 45 years. “The Indian government's spending on infrastructure, and on aviation in particular, has been a great impetus for the growth of the air transport industry,” he said while referring to the modernisation of greenfield airports in Hyderabad and Bangalore and those in Delhi and Mumbai airports besides non-metro airports. - PTI
