Lufthansa introduces new freighter flight

HYDERABAD: Global cargo carrier Lufthansa Cargo has introduced a weekly two-way freighter flight from Frankfurt to the city with a view to extend its presence in the Indian metropolis.

“This new flight to Hyderabad ideally augments the capacities already available in Lufthansa passenger flights,” Lufthansa Cargo Sr Vice-President, Mr Hanish Shah (Sales and Marketing) told media persons here last night.

“We plan to introduce another freighter service within a month keeping in view the cargo load,” Mr Shah said. “(At present) the cargo load for an International destination from Hyderabad is 1,850 tonnes per month and Lufthansa's share is 200 tonnes,” he said adding that it would be doubled soon.

The All-India cargo market for domestic and international destinations is about 55,000 tonnes and Lufthansa's share is 14-15 per cent he added.

Mr Shah said, “With this addition to the network, Lufthansa Cargo is the first airline to offer a freighter service to the south Indian metropolis and extends its presence in the Indian market”.

“The cargo airline uses opportunities in this pulsating market and thus affirms its position as the biggest cargo carrier to India.” - PTI
