Container strike called off

KOCHI: Drivers and crew of container trucks, who were on strike since Tuesday night, called off their protest and movement of containers to and from the Cochin Port have begun since morning.

Union leaders, who met the Cochin Port Trust chairman, P Ramachandran yesterday and assured him that they would convince the employees to call off the strike.

The drivers and crew of container trucks had gone on a lightning strike, disrupting the movement of containers from and to the port. There was heavy congestion at the Rajiv Gandhi Container Terminal now being operated by the India Gateway Terminals Priva te Ltd. The grievance of the container trailer employees, who were on strike, was that they had to wait for hours to unload containers in the terminal. – PTI
