Logistics Govt approves road development projects for North East NEW DELHI: With an aim to improve connectivity and bring socio-economic development of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, the Government on Thursday approved upgrading of Silghat - Tezpur stretch of National Highway 37 A to 4-lane standards and construction of a highway from Tezpur to Jamgudi on NH 52. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs also approved the completion of the pre-construction activities and tendering for the 4-lane project from Nagaon to Itanagar. “Upgradation of National Highway stretches connecting Itanagar to 4-lane standards would provide improved connectivity to Arunachal Pradesh and areas of Assam located on north bank of Brahmaputra, ease traffic flow and bolster socio-economic development of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam,'' an official spokesperson said. Better roads would also attract investment in the region, providing opportunities of employment and trade, the spokesperson added. Approvals were also granted for a bridge over river Jia Bharali and upgrading it to 4-lane standards of existing NH 52 from Jamgudi to Gohpur and of NH 52 A from Gohpur to Itanagar. This would provide 4-lane connectivity from Itanagar to East West Corr idor near Nagaon under phase A of Special Accelerated Road Development Programme for North Eastern Region (SARDP-NE), the spokesperson said. - PTI
