Bahrain, Turkey rail link likely in five years

DUBAI: People living in Manama might soon be able take a train ride to Paris after a rail link connecting Bahrain to Europe via Turkey is constructed.

A proposed Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) rail link to Turkey could become a reality “in the next five to six years”, Turkish Ambassador Mr Osman Haldun said yesterday, Gulf Daily News reported.

It would ultimately lead to the Gulf region being connected to Europe by rail, he said, adding people might soon take a train ride from Manama to Paris.

Officials say planners are already mapping out possible rail routes from Bahrain and other GCC states to Europe, via Turkey following up on a proposal made by Bahrain's King Hamad. - PTI
