Global News / Markets Nepal's parties agree to ready new constitution by May 2010 KATHMANDU: Nepalese political parties have agreed to immediately begin work on a new constitution and enforce it by May 2010, according to Parliament sources. The sources said that the Constituent Assembly has formally adopted rules and procedures that would pave way to complete constitution of the Republic of Nepal by May 2010. The parties who have representatives in the 601 member Constituent Assembly decid ed May 28, 2010, as the deadline to have the constitution ready, they said. After the Maoists emerged as the largest party in the April's elections to the Constituent Assembly, the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly on May 28 abolished the 240 year old monarchy through majority vote. Differences between the political parties had delayed the process of drafting the new constitution by six months. But its chairman Subhas Nemwang has said that the works to draft the new constitution will be completed in the next 18 months as stipulated by the political parties. The Constituent Assembly has also published time table for beginning the process of drafting the constitution. - PTI
