Asian markets open in red

MUMBAI: Asian markets were hit on Thursday on doubts about the pace of economic recovery, aided by Japanese stocks falling to a four-month low and the Australian dollar down for a third day.

Japan’ Nikkei 225 was down 127.23 points or 1.31 per cent at 9,549.57.

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was down 104.74 points or 0.46 per cent 22,735.59.

Singapore’s Straits Times was up 23.88 points or 0.87 per cent at 2,768.92.

Australia’s S&P/Asx 200 was down 4.9 points or 0.1 per cent at 4,674.90.

China’s Shanghai Composite was down 2.85 points or 0.09 per cent at 3,300.38.

Taiwan’s Taiex was up 19.74 points or 0.25 per cent at 7,786.43. — Agencies
