Asian majors rally

MUMBAI: Asian majors rose on Monday as financial firms gained on hopes for a turning point in the credit crisis, which also boosted the dollar.

Tokyo's Nikkei average rose 221.24 points to 13,697.69 points, led by financials such as Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group and exporters such as Honda Motor Co, which stand to benefit from a weaker yen. Similarly, Hong Kong's Hang Seng index rose 603.04 poi nts to 24,800.82

Indices in Australia and Singapore gained over 2 per cent each, while stocks in South Korea and Shanghai gained more than 1 per cent each.
