Talks begin to end Singur deadlock

KOLKATA: The Governor-brokered talks between West Bengal government and Trinamool Congress-led opposition to end the Singur impasse began at the Raj Bhavan on Friday.

Industry Minister Mr Nirupam Sen, Panchayat Minister Mr Surya Kanta Mishra, Chief Secretary Mr Amit Kiran Deb, Home Secretary Mr Ashok Mohan Chakraborty and Industry Secretary Mr Sabyasachi Sen represented the government in the talks presided by Governor Gopal Krishna Gandhi.

Trinamool Congress leader Mr Partha Chatterjee led a delegation of Krishijami Jiban-o-Jibika Raksha Committee, a grouping of farmers, in the talks. Former chief justice of Bombay High Court Mr Chittatosh Mukherjee was present as the legal adviser to the Governor at the talks which began at 4:10 pm. - PTI
