India, China to step up cooperation in traditional medicine

BEIJING: China and India have agreed to intensify bilateral cooperation in the field of traditional medicine and discussed ways to enhance mutual understanding of each other's ancient treatment systems.

Nodal agencies were identified on either side to work out action plans and timetables, during discussions held by an Indian delegation of the government organisation AYUSH (ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy, unani, siddha and homoepathy) with their Chinese counterparts.

The Chinese Vice-Minister of Health and Commissioner, Chinese State Administration on Traditional Chinese Medicine, Mr Wang Guoqiang, would lead a delegation to India in 2009 to further deepen cooperation in the field, the Indian embassy said in a statem ent here.

The delegation led by Ms Anita Das, Secretary, AYUSH, was on a visit to China from July 4-7 under the framework of MoU on ‘Cooperation in Traditional Medicine' signed between the two sides in January this year, during the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Sing h's visit to the country. - PTI
