India, Australia to sign extradition treaty

CHENNAI: The Union Cabinet today gave its approval for signing of an extradition treaty with Australia, accordinf to a release.

The salient features of the treaty are obligation to extradite, extraditable offences, composite offences, grounds of refusal, extradition of nationals, extradition procedures, provisional arrest and rule of specialty.

The treaty would provide a legal framework for seeking extradition of terrorists, economic offenders, and other criminals from and to Australia, the release added. - Our Bureau
