KOLKATA: The Singur issue will have no impact on Vietnamese trade and investment in India, country's Ambassador to India Mr Vu Quang Diem said here. “I am aware of the Singur issue but that would not have any impact in our investment scenario,” he said h ere on the sidelines of an interactive session with Bharat Chamber of Commerce members.

He said that yesterday he met various West Bengal ministers, minister of food processing Mr Mohanta Chatterjee, minister of higher education Mr Sudarshan Roy, minister of fisheries Mr Kiranmay Nanda and minister of Agriculture Mr Naren Dey and discussed all possible cooperation with the state.

“We have very close bond with West Bengal” he said. Mr Diem also said to improve the trade relations Vietnam was trying to improve air connectivity with Bengal. “We are trying with private airlines like Kingfisher and Jet Airways to have direct connectiv ity to Vietnam from Kolkata or Mumbai,” he said.

The Ambassador said the earlier target of bilateral trade of $2 billion by 2010 will surpass within this year as the bilateral trade has already crossed $1.5 billion. - PTI
