General Govt gives relief to families of 164 dead in Mumbai attacks NEW DELHI: Government has given compensation to the families of 164 victims, including 22 security personnel, killed in the Mumbai terror attacks, Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday. Out of 166 deceased, 22 persons are martyrs whose legal heirs have been paid compensation of Rs 25 lakh and for other remaining legal heirs of 142 dead persons cheques of Rs 5 lakh each have been issued, Minister of State for Home Mr Sriprakash Jaiswal s aid in a written reply. Two bodies still remained unidentified. The Maharashtra government has informed that they have released compensation of Rs 50,000 each to 233 injured persons. In five cases, persons have refused to accept the compensation and in one case, the address of the injured person remains untraced, Mr Jaiswal said. The Minister said under the Central Scheme for Assistance to the Victims of Terrorist and Communal Violence, a sum of Rs 3 lakh is provided to the next of kin of the innocent persons who have died or have become permanently incapacitated due to terrorist violence. However, “this Ministry has not received so far any proposal from the Government of Maharashtra in this regard,” he said. - PTI
