UPA meets to discuss government formation

NEW DELHI: Congress on Wednesday began discussions on government formation with its pre-poll alliance partners at a meeting of the UPA here.

The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh and Congress President, Ms Sonia Gandhi deliberated the nitty-gritty of government formation with its pre-poll allies like the DMK, Trinamool Congress, NCP and National Conference.

DMK supremo Mr M Karunanidhi, NCP chief Mr Sharad Pawar, National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah, Trinamool Congress leader Ms Mamta Banerjee, Muslim League leader Mr E Ahamed, JMM leader Mr Shibu Soren were among the leaders present for the mee ting.

The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh is expected to call on President Ms Pratibh Patil later today to stake claim to form the next government. - PTI
