General Gujarat to take up Timber unit issue with CEC VADODARA: The issue of pending license applications for setting up 147 timber industrial units at Kandla will be soon taken up by the Gujarat government with the Central Environment Committee (CEC) for clearance purposes, the State Forest and Environment Minister, Mr Mangubhai Patel said. These applications have been pending which CEC for a long time and this committee appointed by the apex court takes a decision only after taking all relevant aspects into consideration, Mr Patel said. The State government, which helped the revival of 125 saw mills which were closed down in Kandla, has decided to take up the issue of clearance of long pending 147 license applications after Mr R T Somaiya, President of Timber Importers Association of In dia met the Minster and pursued the matter during a function in Gandhidham on Sunday. The clearance of these license applications would result into investment of Rs 1,000 crore or more generating more job opportunities in the region, he said. - PTI
