General UPA's education policy lacks direction: Joshi NAGPUR: Criticising the Centre's new education policy, senior BJP leader Mr Murli Manohar Joshi has said that it lacks direction and is impractical. “The new education policy lacks direction, is illogical and impractical,'' Joshi, who was the HRD Minister in the NDA Government, told reporters here. “Under the federal structure, states have rights and before any announcement of reforms in the educati on sector, the UPA government should have taken them into confidence instead of rushing to PM's 100-day agenda,'' he said yesterday. The BJP leader, who spent close to six hours at the RSS headquarters in Mahal having discussions with the RSS leadership over the issue, said UPA Government should not do anything which would destroy education system. There is a need for reforms in primary education system and hence higher education system should not be touched at this stage. The Government should have first discussed the issue with Central Advisory Board for Education, which probably was not done, he said. The requirements of a north-east state may differ with Kerala and that of Gujarat with Rajasthan, Mr Joshi said. Acknowledging that the party has entrusted him the responsibility of going through this exercise following his credentials as a former minis ter of the department, Joshi said sex education also figured in his discussion with the RSS leadership. – PTI
