Info-Tech MTNL launches per second billing for 2G, 3G subscribers NEW DELHI: Amid stiff competition from private players, state-run telco MTNL on Tuesday launched per second billing plan for its 2G and 3G customers in Delhi and Mumbai circles. For calls made within the MTNL network, the charges would be half a paisa per second, MTNL Chairman and Managing Director RSP Sinha said here. Under the per second billing plan, subscribers would be charged one paise per second for local and STD calls across the country on all networks, he said. MTNL, which is among the two companies offering 3G services in India, would provide video calls at one paise per second across the country. It has also slashed the local SMS rate to 25 paise per SMS, although the STD SMS rates remain Re 1 per SMS. With t he introduction of this plan, MTNL has joined the league of telcos offering calls at one paisa per second. Private players like Airtel, Vodafone and Aircel as well as state-run BSNL are already offering this tariff to their subscribers. The price war, which is aimed at wooing new users ahead of fresh entrants waiting to launch their services, has raised concerns about the profitability of these firms. - PTI
