Silicon Graphics looking to tap enterprise segment

NEW DELHI: Provider of high performance computing hardware for research entities, Silicon Graphics is now planning to target the commercial segment in collaboration with partners.

"We have been talking to the prominent system integrators and software consulting companies for using our products in the commercial space," Mr Prasad Medury, Managing Director of Silicon Graphics India, said.

He said that the SGI would either allow the partners to use their own logo on its products or enter into a co-branding agreement. For the enterprise market the SGI finds its products useful for server and storage applications.

If the agreement with partners comes through, it will open a new area of business for the company. SGI has so far targeted big research establishments and research and development departments of companies, which need computing and visualisation powers of the highest level.

It has already deployed its products with companies such as Oil and Natural Gas Corporation and Tata Motors.

Today the company launched servers and storage systems that have been priced lower than the products it has already been selling in India. Through these products we are targeting auto ancillary units, research labs and universities, Mr Medury said. - PT I
