Spice Tele launches mobile software venture 'Mobisoc'

NEW DELHI: Spice Televentures, the wholly-owned subsidiary of B K Modi Group on Thursday announced the launch of its mobile software development venture Mobisoc Technology Pvt Ltd to offer internet enabled valued added services.

“Mobisoc will enable rich internet experience on all mobile phones. Today, 70 per cent of the phones sold are GPRS-enabled but the usage of value-added services is yet to pick up,'' Spice Televentures Chairman, Mr Dilip Modi told reporters here.

“We expect to grab 10 per cent share of the total GPRS phones sold in the country by December 2009, he added.

Mobisoc's flagship product, Mitr, would enable development of mobile applications for varied platforms like Java, Symbian, Android, Windows Mobile and Blackberry and thus save the cost of testing applications on different phones.

Mobisoc has partnered Naukri.com, Jeevansathi.com, makeMytrip.com, FinancialExpress.com and Sulekha.com to launch their applications on its platform.

Commenting on the listing of the group company Cellebrum, Mr Modi said he will wait till the market stabilises.

“There were minor technical glitches that delayed the process. But now, we are ready for listing and when the market conditions are apt, we will open our IPO,'' he said.

Cellebrum is a leading provider of value-added services catering to telecom majors in India and Asia including Idea Cellular, Reliance Telecom, Spice Telecom, Bharti Televentures, Vodafone, BSNL, MTNL and HFCL Connect.

Talking about its Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) operations, he said, the company's plan to hire 15,000 people by the end of the fiscal is on track.

“We remain committed to our plan despite the turbulent market. In fact, this will provide us an opportunity to develop newer models and provide our clients more economic solutions,'' he added.

There might be cost pressures by year-end but that will be taken care off by business from other verticals like telecom and travel, he further added.

Spice Televentures clocks about 10 per cent of the total revenue from its BPO services. - PTI
