Moser Baer begins shipping of new hard discs

MUMBAI: Compact disc maker Moser Baer India Ltd on Tuesday said it has begun shipping its next generation format hard discs to its global customers.

The company has started shipping HD DVD-R (High Definition Digital Video Disc or High Density Digital Versatile Disc - recordable), a digital optical media format, which can hold high definition video or other data, to original equipment manufacturers (O EMs).

The HD DVD-R offers more than three times the data storage capacity of standard DVD media and would have a capacity of 15 GB, Moser Baer informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.

It also provides an ideal solution for reliable business backup, including medical and government imaging, photography, videography, as well as high definition video recording, the company added.

"According to the US based Strategic Marketing and Decisions, the demand for the next generation high density formats is expected at 1.5 billion discs over the next three years. This represents an exciting opportunity for us, as the company now has the f irst mover advantage with this launch," Mr Ratul Puri, Executive Director of the company said. - PTI
