Bombardier to stay with Satyam

NEW DELHI: Amid reports that big clients of scam-tainted Satyam Computer may move work to other vendors, Bombardier, one of the top 30 clients of the IT major, on Friday said it is continuing the existing contracts with the firm.

In a letter to Satyam's Board member, Mr Tarun Das, Canada-based Bombardier said: “The company has always been very satisfied with the work of Satyam's 285 associates. We look forward to maintaining relationship with Satyam.”

The letter further added, “In these times of uncertainty, we strongly support the Indian government's measure to provide continuity and stability to Satyam. We hope that the government will make sure that the human capital and assets involved in the engi neering centre will be preserved.”

Satyam had opened a development centre for Bombardier in Ottawa, which currently employs 285 people. Other clients such as GE and Malaysian Airlines had said that they have not moved work from Satyam.

Satyam has more than 650 clients, many of whom are Fortune 500 firms.

After the admission of fraud by Satyam's founder Mr Ramalinga Raju, analysts had said that “Satyam is likely to see its clients as well as employees deserting it soon due to the competitive wooing by rivals and top IT firms such as Infosys would continue to shore up their market share”.

However, as of now only two large customers have given notice on leaving the company. The government-appointed board members as well as the leadership team of the management are constantly in touch with the big clients of the IT firm to assure them about business continuity. - PTI
