Samsung launches new range of refrigerators, microwave

NEW DELHI: Korean consumer durables maker Samsung has launched a range of 'Freshtech' refrigerators in the Indian market, along with new models of microwave ovens.

Driven by the new launches, the company is targeting 50 per cent increase in both the categories. "The 2008 Freshtech range of refrigerators is differentiated on account of retaining the freshness and nutrition value of the fruits and vegetables being s tored," Mr R Zutshi, Deputy Managing Director, Samsung India said while launching the new range.

The series of refrigerators has been introduced in the capacity segments between 230 L to 345 L in Frost-free priced between Rs 13,000 to Rs 23,500. The new 'Freshtech' range of Frost-free has a 'freshness lamp', emitting red colour LED rays on the stor ed edibles.

"We expect our Frost free range to contribute around 46 per cent of our total refrigerator volumes this year," Mr Zutshi said, adding the company was targeting an over 50 per cent increase in its frost-free refrigerator volumes this year.

Samsung has also strengthened its Direct Cool range offering by introducing a new 230- litre capacity Direct Cool refrigerator with 'Fresh kit' technology. The kit absorbs bad odours, keeping the fruits and vegetables fresh.

To meet its growth plans, the company has also enhanced its refrigerator manufacturing capacity at its Noida plant from 0.8 million units per annum to 1.4 million units per annum in the first quarter of this year.

Samsung has created a new segment in the hi-end convection microwave oven segment by launching its innovative Smart Oven microwave ovens in 36 litre and 42 litre segments.

Samsung India, which is targeting an over 50 per cent growth in its microwave oven sales this year, also launched five new microwave ovens models. - PTI
