Sterlite third quarter profit drops 34% on lower smelting fees

MUMBAI: Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd., the nation's largest non-ferrous metals producer, said third-quarter profit declined 34 per cent because revenue from smelting copper metal fell and zinc prices dropped.

Net income was Rs 855 crore ($217 million) in the three months ended December 31, from Rs 1,290 crore a year ago, the Mumbai-based company said today in a statement.
