MADURAI: The construction work of the Rs 15,000-crore Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Nanguneri in Tirunelveli district has commenced with the laying of 4.5 roads, official sources said.

Initially roads, water supply and electricity connection would be provided, the sources recently said. The Centre had given notification for the SEZ on November 18, after the district administration acquired about 2,500 acres of land for the purpose.

The boomi pooja for the SEZ, for which Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation had signed an MoU with the Hyderabad based A M R Ltd, was done on April 20. - PTI
