Govt/States TN farmers’ assn want Govt to accept CACP proposal MADURAI: The Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Association Federation has demanded that the State Government accept the recommendation of Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices, just like they did on the Sixth Pay Commission. The demand was being made in lieu of the fact that the price being paid for a tonne of sugarcane was very less at a time when the cost had gone up, Mr C. Nallasamy, Coordinator, Tamil Nadu Farmers’ Associations Federation, told reporters here. He said the Government was offering them only Rs 1,200 a tonne based on the price which was once Rs 12 a kg. Since the cost had gone up to Rs 36 a kg, mills should pay them Rs 3,600 per tonne. He claimed that mills earn Rs 14,000 from each tonne of sugarcane — through manufacture of sugar, molasses and captive power generation. — PTI
