Govt/States Centre says no to MP Govt’s plan to close road transport corpn BHOPAL: The Centre has turned down the Madhya Pradesh Government’s proposal to wind up the financially-crunched Madhya Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (MPSRTC), official sources said on Friday. The Union Labour Ministry on Thursday communicated this in an order to the Madhya Pradesh Government and asked it to restructure MPSRTC, the sources said. This is the third time when the Centre has taken such decision as earlier also on two occasions, it had rejected the State Government’s proposal in this regard, they said. The order also said that permission for closing down an organisation, which is serving public interest, would give a wrong impression and other states would like to follow Madhya Pradesh, the sources said. The Labour Ministry Joint Secretary, Mr S.K. Varman, intimated about the rejection to Principal Secretary, Transport, Mr Rajan Singh Katoch. The decision is a setback for the State Government that is making all out efforts to close MPSRTC, the sources said. However, the MPSRTC Employees Unions welcomed the move. —PTI
