Govt/States Bottling plant stops supplying LPG in Manipur IMPHAL: Consumers were at the receiving in Imphal West district of Manipur as the Sekmai Cooking Gas Bottling Plant (SKGBP) stopped supply of LPG to different agencies since yesterday because of extortion demands by militants in border areas. SKGBP sources said today LPG tankers from Indian Oil Corporation centres in Assam stopped transporting the gas because of monetary demands from militant outfits resulting in the shortage. Owners of gas tankers had stopped bringing LPG from December 9 last in protest against the monetary demand by the militants, sources said. A militant outfit was still holding a tanker at Mao area at Manipur-Nagaland border because of non-payment of their extortion demand since December 10 last, reports said. The situation is turning into a major LPG crisis for the state as SKGBP is the only gas bottling plant in Manipur which has no stock as of now. Sources said some militant outfits had demanded huge amount of money from gas tankers bringing LPG to Manipur from IOC outlets in Assam and their demands could not be met by the tanker owners. - PTI
