Balco power plant mishap: Labour dept official suspended

RAIPUR: A top labour department official has been suspended in connection with the Balco power plant mishap in which 41 labourers were killed in Chhattisgarh's Korba district.

According to official sources, Rajjubhai Bhoi, in-charge Deputy Director, Labour Department (Bilaspur) was suspended for dereliction of duties during the chimney collapse at an under-construction power plant of metal major Balco.

Bhoi's suspension orders have been issued, and Manish Kumar from Higene laboratory in the state capital will be taking charge for the post in Bilaspur.

The Chhattisgarh government has already taken action against two officials including Labour Commissioner Satya Prakash Verma following the September 23 tragedy.

Also the state government has ordered a judicial probe into the mishap and Korba police has arrested four persons including the Balco Vice President. - PTI
