Govt/States Tripura declared malaria drug resistant AGARTALA: All the four districts of Tripura have been declared as malaria drug resistant even as the disease is taking its toll in the state every year. Twenty people died of the disease in 2005, the number rose to 41 in 2006 and 44 last year, the Heal th Minister Mr Tapan Chakraborty said on Friday. The figures were based on hospital records only but then maybe many more died due to the disease, he said. Last year, the disease affected 23,375 people, he said. The Union Health Ministry was helping the state in controlling the disease by providing effective medicines. It also also supplied 1,15,000 medicated mosquito nets. The state health department received six fogging machines for use in Agartala Municipal Corporation areas where DDT is being sprayed regularly. - PTI
