Chidambaram hails TN budget

SIVAGANGA: Lauding the Tamil Nadu government for presenting a surplus budget, Mr P Chidambaram, Union Finance Minister, has appealed to all other State governments to prepare budgets without revenue deficit.

He was speaking after inaugurating the 1387th branch of the Andhra Bank at Ilayankudi near here yesterday.

Mr Chidambaram said the Centre has planned to construct 21 lakh group houses in the country. The Andhra Bank had disbursed educational loans to the tune of rs 1,635 crore to 75,370 students during the current fiscal, he said.

The State Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments, Mr K R Periakaruppan and Andhra Bank Chairman and Managing Director, Mr K Ramachandran were present on the occasion. - PTI
