Officer suspended for role in pension scam

MUZAFFARNAGAR: A government official has been suspended on Saturday for his alleged involvement in a multi-crore pension scam in this district.

Sumir Kulshresta, an Assistant Manager of the social welfare department, has been suspended for his role in misappropriating the government fund worth Rs 10 crore allocated under the old age pension scheme, sources said.

During an inquiry conducted recently, it was found that more than five thousand beneficiaries have died, while around six thousand undeserving candidates were made eligible for pension benefits. - PTI
