KVIB to set up 200 industrial units in Bandipora

SRINAGAR: The Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) is setting up 200 industrial units in Bandipora district of Jammu and Kashmir to promote the traditional business of blanket and woollen weaving.

The Board will provide 30 per cent subsidy on loans besides technical know-how to the rural artisans of Gurez area for setting up their weaving units, an official spokesman said here on Wednesday.

The step was taken as part of contact programmes organised by the Board at Bagtoor, Khandial, Sardab and other villages, he said.

The local artisans are educated about the benefits of re-generating traditional industries and production of raw material in these programmes. They are also taught how to market the goods within and outside the state.

The Board would also set up three training centres in Hassangam, Gujran and Barnai remote villages where women beneficiaries would be imparted training in different crafts, the spokesman said. - PTI
