Prasar Bharati, Nimbus move HC again

NEW DELHI: A day after Prasar Bharati and Nimbus Communications were asked to share feed for the India- West Indies cricket series; both the broadcasters on Wednesday approached the Delhi High Court again on the issue.

While Prasar Bharati has sought live feed of the matches against yesterday's single bench court order of a seven-minute delayed signal, Nimbus moved a plea seeking clarifications on marketing rights for the matches.

The public broadcaster challenged the single bench order, citing the Government's up-linking guidelines that make it contingent on private broadcasters to share live feed of sporting events of national interest.

The matter was mentioned by Prasar Bharati's counsel Mr Vijay Hansaria before a Bench comprising Chief Justice Mr M K Sharma and Justice Mr Sanjiv Khanna, seeking simultaneous telecast of the matches.

The counsel pressed for an urgent hearing today, but the court fixed the matter for tomorrow. Meanwhile, Nimbus also filed a fresh plea seeking clarifications on marketing rights. The matter is likely to come up for hearing later today.

When contacted, Mr Harish Thawani, Chairman of Nimbus said: "Yes, we have moved the court for certain clarifications."

A single Bench had passed the interim order yesterday on a petition filed by Nimbus Communication Ltd, suggesting deferred telecast as an interim arrangement to end the tussle between the two broadcasters, which had deprived millions of non-cable viewers of the match action. - PTI
