SPG budget sees 45% hike

NEW DELHI: The budgetary allocation for the elite Special Protection Group, which protects the Prime Minister and his family, has seen an increase of 45 per cent for the next fiscal. The budgetary proposals for SPG, which has been bringing in modern equi pment for guarding the Prime Minister, for this fiscal has been pegged at Rs 170.79 crore as against Rs 117 crore during the year 2007-08.

The SPG is entrusted with providing proximate security to the Prime Minister, former prime Ministers and members of their immediate family. The budgetary proposal for next fiscal for Intelligence Bureau has seen a marginal 10 per cent hike despite UPA Go vernment laying special emphasis on intelligence gathering mechanism. - PTI
