Like many I also tuned in to hear Rahul Gandhi address the CII Annual General Meeting.

He came across as a cool Gen X politician who is not patronizing. Use of words like ‘guys’, ‘boss’ made him seem more approachable than others from his fraternity.

During his over an hour long interaction with the top honchos of the corporate world he also fumbled, slipped up in his notes. Very normal thing to happen, and no he was not awkward about it.

As my colleague Aesha said: ‘he is funny in a strange way’. There was a right hint of wit when he spoke. Marriage and Prime Ministerial candidate or not, according to him are not a priority. Bingo!

Gandhi spoke about moving forward together – industry and government. Right words!

He said education system needs to be in sync with what is the need of the hour. Perfect!

Role of Gram Panchayats, a subject which was close to his father, also got a significant mention. Correct again!

But, there was something missing. Guidance! Gandhi did not offer a way forward. After all UPA Government is led by Congress. When the Congress Vice-President speaks, one expects him to also give some sense of directions to the questions which he was throwing before the floor.

If he did, may be I missed them.

And finally, time he stopped feeling guilty about the fact that where he stands today is because of his DNA. Yes, it’s true that because he is a Gandhi he is there. But, having accepted the position, why feel guilty.
